Sacred Return is a fine art paper print of an abstract painting from the Through Love series, a collection inspired by Rumi’s poem Call to Love: In the Rose Garden.
Each original piece in this series incorporates handwriting from Maria, her brother, and her mother, each writing out the same poem in their own hand. These three versions of the text are superimposed on one another and used as collage elements within the original painting, layering three voices, three scripts, and one shared poem into a single, deeply intimate work.
Working intuitively with mixed media and collage on paper, the original paintings explore love, connection, and the places where the personal and the poetic meet.
