About Me

Hello, I'm Maria Arroyave, an artist based in London, UK.

Having originally trained in General Art & Design, followed by a BA(Hons) degree in Textiles many years ago, it wasn't until 2020 during lockdown - when we all were given the gift of introspection - that I properly revisited this great passion and started expressing my creativity through art once again.

After my dearest sister passed away, this creative practice has become a real lifeline for me. A spiritual outlet. A space where I can surrender, go within, and express my feelings and emotions through the exploration of colour, shape, texture and mark-making. An intuitive expression of my soul, that has become an incredibly healing part of my grieving journey and so much more in reminding me of not just who I am, but also the value of connection with others.

Born in Oxford, to Colombian and Spanish parents, I am fortunate to have travelled and experienced a diversity of cultures from a young age. This grew inexorably into a great passion and impetus to further nourish my mind and soul, enriching both myself and my work with a wild variety of landscapes, colours and textures.

I bring this energy of heritage to my daily walks, travels, and the powerful healing immersion of being in nature, creating expressive, intuitive and abstract works using acrylics and mixed media collage. I draw upon my own life experiences – encompassing both joys and sorrows – in the hope of creating work that connects in a positive and uplifting way.
